Principal Qin Wu, Ms. Xin Yan Zhu, students, parents, ladies and gentleman.

It is a pleasure to be here today, representing the Nova Scotia Department of Education on what I know is a tremendously important day for you and your families.

It is a special day for me as well.

This is my first visit to your beautiful province and impressive school, and I can not tell you how honored I am to share in this special day.

Your graduation day is a significant milestone in your educational journey.  Today marks the end of one chapter in your life, but its also opens the door to the education provides.

These ceremonies are filled with joy, relief and the excitement that comes with accomplishment; but, most of all, they are filled with pride.

I, along with my colleagues in Nova Scotia share your pride, because you too are, in a way, Nova Scotia high school graduates.

Over the past couple of years, your school has developed a strong connection to Nova Scotia, and had built a valuable and lasting partnership.

I am told that next year, even more students will benefit from the Nova Scotia curriculum and exceptional teaching this school has to offer.  That is very exciting.

Even though you are half a world away, you join thousands of students in Nova Scotia, who are also celebrating their graduations this month.

That in itself is an amazing thing.  You are sharing something precious with students in Nova Scotia—a quality education.

You are tremendously talented and dedicated students and you will be a valuable addition to any post secondary institution you chose.

I am told that several graduates here today have chosen to study in Canada.  My country is extremely fortunate to have such a talented group of students join our renowned educational institutions.  I am confident you will enjoy your experience in Canada, and receive excellent training for the many career pathways available to you.

The years of hard work and study you have dedicated is celebrated today, and I applaud you for your efforts and achievements.

Always aim high.  Don’t settle for what you know you can accomplish.  Challenge yourself to pursue the impossible, and you’ll go further than you could ever imagine.,

Congratulations to you, the class of 2011.
